Small bedroom (14)

When you step inside this room, you immediately notice the Flemish corner bed. It gives us an idea of the 17th-century sleeping habit: not lying down, but half-sitting and leaning against large pillows.
In this room
John the Baptist
The young man on this small panel is John the Baptist, the saint who foretold the coming of Christ.
Canopy bed
Until well into the seventeenth century, it was not unusual for beds to be placed in the main room of the house, as close as possible to the warmth of the fireplace.
Young boy on his death bed
Among the most touching subjects in seventeenth-century portraiture are pictures of dying children.
